BREAKING NEWS: GOBLIN COCK NOMINATED FOR THREE PLUG AWARDS

Goblin Cock has been nominated in three categories for the PLUG Awards. PLUG explains its awards as such: "The PLUG Independent Music Awards is about the independent community coming together to recognize its own and about the bands we all devote our lives and careers to champion. For us fans, it ain't about the scans or the scrilla, it's about the music. It's about the artists who inspire and the music that disrupts the artistic and corporate mediocrity that dominates our culture."

Goblin Cock has been nominated for Metal Album of the Year for their debut Bagged and Boarded. They've also been nominated for Music Video of the Year for "Stumped," directed by the lovely and talented Matt Hoyt, and for Album Art/Packaging of the Year for the instant classic of a cover painted by acclaimed fantasy/sci-fi artist Mike Sutfin. Please cast your votes for these lovely and talented people here: http://www.plugawards.com/general_vote.php

________

The Dead Science – Frost Giant CD * Seattle trio showers you in honey and feathers with an incredible album of art-damaged rock-jazz. All those hyphens are frustrating, but what do you do if you're one of the most original bands currently in music? Think Roxy Music eating Deerhoof alive with a glass of Chet Baker's voice and you're in firing range. This band just keeps getting better and better. On tour with Xiu Xiu now.

Xiu Xiu - A Promise LP * This long-unavailable LP(originally on Collective Jyrk) is back with a brand new full - color jacket. Our second release this year with a penis on the cover. Grandma would be so proud.

SUNSET RUBDOWN SIGNS TO ABSOLUTELY KOSHER

We're extremely excited to welcome Montreal, Quebec's Sunset Rubdown to the label. Sunset Rubdown is largely the work of Spencer Krug. Krug had up until now been more widely known as a primary member of Wolf Parade, whose debut full length Apologies to the Queen Mary (Sub Pop) has been enjoying widespread critical and commercial acclaim. Prior to Wolf Parade (and still occasionally in their live line-up), Krug played keyboards with Victoria, BC's sensational Frog Eyes. Sunset Rubdown started as a solo project of home recordings (the album Snake's Got A Leg was released in June and a 5-song self-titled EP is due in January, both released by BC label Global Symphonic and available from our website). While Krug is still captain of the ship, the project has evolved into a full-fledged band effort. The group will record their new album in December at Montreal's Breakglass Studio. The as-yet-untitled effort will be released May 2 on Absolutely Kosher (and Global Symphonic in Canada), just in time for Sunset Rubdown to support Frog Eyes on a month-long national tour in May. Speaking of Frog Eyes, we'll have some very exciting news about them next update.

Don't forget the Absolutely Kosher Podcast. It's a little less formal than typing it all out for the update plus it allows the music to sell itself rather than me typing endlessly about what you can hear for yourself. The address (aka feed) to paste into your aggregator (like iPodder) is: http://www.absolutelykosher.com/podcasts/dircaster.php

If you want to read up on our podcast or manually download the large mp3 files yourself, visit us at http://absolutelykosher.blogspot.com/

And while you're out and about and surfing en vogue, you can visit our My Space page. We'll be your friend.

Thank you as always for your support. We've grown every year because of your help and appreciation for what we do. Please help spread the word. Any new folks who sign up to our mailing list (just e-mail your address to macher@absolutelykosher.com) receive a CD sampler with 23 tracks from the label's catalogue (one per person, please. If you're already on our e-mail list, you can get one by placing an order on our site). We'll have more tour dates (Goblin Cock!), Ex-Boyfriends, the Court and Spark, Frog Eyes, the Wrens, Shooby Taylor news and a very exciting new signing to announce next update. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, have a Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year's.
