Pidgeon

From the depths of San Francisco's Sunset district lurk's a wolf in sheep's clothing,a five-piece wrecking crew of pop and noise called Pidgeon. Micah Foley (guitar, singing, screaming), Troy Enrile (drums) and Jonathan "Stick" Tuite (guitar, yelling), all formerly of Bay Area hardcore legends Used Naked Bloody, joined with Val Iwamasa (singing, guitar) and Mikey de Jesus (bass) to form Pidgeon and record the band's debut From Gutter With Love, released by Absolutely Kosher in 2004. Impossible to pigeonhole (ouch), the band's three guitar assault boosts and buries pop hooks with swirling noise and power riffs. They blend Val and Micah's off-kilter pop vocals (a la Blonde Redhead) with Micah's intense and ferocious screaming (a la Rudimentary Peni or certain black metal bands). The Cardigans vs. Motorhead? A modern Pixies? A Heavier Vegetable? You could play band math all day, but Pidgeon is Pidgeon, a delicate and frightening rock band.

de Jesus left shortly after the band's debut was released and was replaced by Alexi Alexieff. The new line-up recorded the band's sophomore album Might As Well Go Eat Worms with Aaron Prellwitz at San Francisco's Tiny Telephone studio in 2006 and Tuite departed the band immediately afterwords. The album is a tremendous realization of the band's potential.

The second album from Pidgeon shows the San Francisco five-piece getting a whole lot better at what they already do which, um, nobody else is. Just as delicate and vicous as ever, now sparkling and chunky thanks to producer Aaron Prellwitz (Death Cab, Erase Eratta, Red House Painters) and Tiny Telephone Studio. Includes the monster "Orcish Pleasure" and the deadly catchy "California." (AK059)
Pidgeon - From Gutter With Love

The startling debut from this white hot San Francisco combo. Pidgeon combine the seering intensity of hardcore with the bubbling charm of pop, hide hooks beneath thundering riffs, even skank when you think they'll skronk. Utterly engaging and shockingly irresistable. You think you're ordering vanilla, but this is maple walnut rum raisin, biotch. (AK041)
